One Down, Three to Go!

I still remember my first day in the BSc CSIT program at Prithvi Narayan Campus. That memory is still very fresh in my mind. Stepping into university after high school was a mixed feeling with both nervousness and excitement. It was not just a change in my studies, but an important turning point in my life. These four years of my bachelor’s journey will play a big role in shaping my future career. Like many students, I was standing at a crossroads filled with confusion, questions and uncertainty about the days to come in future. Since my early school days, I have been interested in computers and was always curious about science and technology. From a young age, I enjoyed using computers, exploring their features and playing games, which slowly turned my small curiosity into a strong passion and led me to choose this field. With my growing interest in technology and computers, I decided to pursue my bachelor’s degree in BSc CSIT believing it would help me turn my passion into a meaningful career.

However, the transition from high school to the bachelor’s level was not as easy as it seemed. Adjusting to the college environment was difficult at the start. Almost all of my friends were planning to go abroad for further studies and being surrounded by this trend made me doubt myself. I began questioning my decision to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Nepal. Seeing many of my seniors and friends leave the country also created a feeling of insecurity and uncertainty about my future and the opportunities available here. I also started worrying about the value of the four years I would invest, especially considering the condition of the education system and the political activities within government campuses. For some time, I felt completely lost and was unsure about the decisions I had made after joining my bachelor’s in Nepal. Those days were truly difficult.

A few months passed with these thoughts and honestly, the decision to stay in Nepal slowly started to feel right. Being close to home and family gives me comfort and balance to the life that would have been difficult to find if I had moved abroad. The friendly environment of my college along with the support from my teachers, seniors and friends has made my journey easier. Over time, I started building meaningful connections beyond the four walls of the classroom. The motivations, guidance and inspirations from teachers and seniors helps me keep learning and improving. Where everything seemed uncertain and clueless, I can finally say that I am slowly gaining some patterns on what to do moving forward in my life.

Throughout the first year, I didn’t limit myself just to the classroom. I took part in different webinars, workshops and training sessions to enhance and improve my technical skills. These activities helped me to explore the real world applications about the things we study in class. Beyond academics, I also got involved in different events inside the valley. I actively joined student clubs inside and outside the campus such as CSITAN Pokhara and ACS RDI, where I started building up connections with my seniors. They helped me in avoiding the common  mistakes that they made and also motivated me for the days to come. I got connected with like minded people and learned many things from them. Their constant support and guidance means a lot to me. At the same time, the first year was filled with fun and memorable moments. From playing UNO during breaks, playing cricket on ground, sharing jokes in class, going outings with friends, these moments made my bond with classmates even stronger. I always feel lucky when I see my friends in abroad sharing stories of homesickness and loneliness.

Looking back, I realize how much has changed in just one year. From being uncertain about the decision I took after my grade 12, I have slowly started finding the path in this journey. These experiences have shaped me in different ways. This year taught me to believe in myself, trust myself and adapt to new situations and challenges. I am more confident and aware about my paths in life moving to the next year. There are still three more years ahead and I believe they will bring new lessons, experiences and memories. Although the first day was filled with nervousness and confusion, today I feel more focused and satisfied with the decision I made.

I really enjoyed this year.
One year down, Three more to go
